Vienna Runner Leads Females At Quantico Triathlon

The Quantico Tri included swimming in the Potomac River, biking through Marine Corps Base Quantico, and running trails.

QUANTICO, VA — A Vienna runner led women at the 2019 Quantico Triathlon on Saturday, Aug. 24. The Quantico 12K and Quantico Tri drew 1,210 participants as part of the MCM event series, which leads up to the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct. 27.

Peyton Young, 42, was the top female runner in the triathlon with a time of 1:16:59. The Quantico Tri included swimming in the Potomac River at sunrise, biking through Marine Corps Base Quantico, and running the trails at the Officer Candidate School. Young placed 50th overall among 563 participants.

The top finisher in the Quantico Tri was Erik Armes, 22, of Tempe, Arizona with a time of 1:01:37. Armes is part of the U.S. National Triathlon Team and was in town to participate with his father, Marine Corps Col. Stephen Armes.

Runners can earn a Distinguished Participation medal by participating in the year's qualifying MCM event series. This year's qualification will finish with the Marine Corps Marathon in October and the Turkey Trot on Nov. 13. Over 350 runners currently qualify for the Distinguished Participation medal.

Aside from the Quantico Tri athletes, 647 participated in the Quantico 12K, a 7.46-mile run. See full results at www.marinemarathon.com/results/quantico-tri.
