Woman Caught In I-66 High-Speed Chase With Kids In Car: Police

Three children were in the car during the chase in both directions of Interstate 66, according to Virginia State Police.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA—A woman is facing charges after a high-speed chase with kids in the car on Interstate 66 in Northern Virginia in the early morning of July 4.

Virginia State Police allege Charlina McBride, 41, of Washington, DC had been driving at 82 mph in a 55 mph zone. She had 9-month-old, 3-year-old and 7-year-old children in the car.

Police spotted her Toyota Camry speeding on westbound 66 near the 53 mile marker in the Centreville area around 12:46 a.m. The driver kept going when an officer tried to pull her over. McBride allegedly used an emergency crossover near the rest stop in the Manassas area to continue in the eastbound direction of 66.

Officers ended the chase by stopping in front of McBride's car near the 70 mile marker in Arlington. McBride was arrested and charged with one felony count of eluding police, reckless driving and improper registration. She was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Arlington County Fire Department personnel evaluated the children as a precaution, but they were not injured. They were put in custody of a relative.
