📰 News we're reading
1. Shenandoah Valley still the fastest-growing area in Virginia (dnronline.com) — Winchester's metro area is growing faster than any other in Virginia, with population up 6.5% since 2020 even as many residents head to cheaper housing in nearby West Virginia counties. Demographers say newcomers are increasingly younger and higher-income, but local wage growth lags despite strong job gains, raising questions about affordability and long-term economic balance for Winchester and Frederick County.

2. Shenandoah loses halftime lead, falls to Hampden-Sydney (nvdaily.com) — Shenandoah University's football team dropped its ODAC opener in Winchester, surrendering a 14-10 halftime lead to fall 30-14 to Hampden-Sydney after struggling to contain the Tigers' dominant ground game. Local fans saw standout efforts from Hornets quarterback Mekhi Brown and cornerback Jaren Mitchell, but missed chances and a key third-quarter field goal miss swung momentum before Shenandoah heads on the road next weekend.

3. Reaching Out Now Expands Programs and Opportunities for Warren County Youth (royalexaminer.com) — Warren County's Reaching Out Now is rapidly expanding after-school programs, leadership training, and career exploration at the Raymond E. Santmyers Student Union, while keeping membership affordable through community support. Local teens now access tutoring, entrepreneurship and culinary programs, plus the YES leadership conference at Shenandoah University, which intentionally includes students from Winchester City Public Schools to build regional connections and expose first-generation students to college life.

4. Herndon town manager fired after vote from council, less than year in position (dcnewsnow.com) — Winchester residents may remember former city manager Dan Hoffman, who has now been abruptly fired as town manager in Herndon after less than a year in the job. Herndon officials have not explained the decision, but they credit Hoffman's Winchester tenure with modernizing services and economic projects, while an interim manager steps in during the transition.
