1. Ala. hospital plans 2 $41M freestanding EDs (ems1.com) — Two new $41 million freestanding emergency departments are coming to North Huntsville and Hampton Cove, promising shorter response times and added specialty clinics for city residents. Recently approved by the Planning Commission, the mirror-image facilities will offer lab work, imaging, helipads, and on-site ambulances, with construction expected to start later this year and finish by late 2027 or early 2028.
   

2. Huntsville announces 2026 Halloween events (whnt.com) — Huntsville families can start planning now for the city's free Halloween party and haunted house at John Hunt Park on October 23, featuring a trick‑or‑treat trail, bounce houses, games, and food trucks. Organized by Huntsville Police and Parks and Recreation, the event is part of several fall activities aimed at giving kids safe, fun ways to celebrate across the city.
   

3. West Aviation development moves forward at Huntsville International Airport (whnt.com) — A major expansion at Huntsville International Airport is moving ahead with $2 million in new federal funding to prepare land on the west side for aviation and aerospace growth. Local leaders say the project will support new maintenance and overhaul companies, mirror the airport's busy cargo operations, and bring more high‑skill jobs and economic strength to Huntsville and North Alabama.
   

4. Parents concerned about speeding in south Huntsville (whnt.com) — South Huntsville parents are sounding the alarm about drivers speeding near Challenger and Mountain Gap elementary schools, saying they no longer feel safe letting kids walk or bike. They're calling for more police presence, radar signs, and clearer school-zone warnings on Bailey Cove and Versailles Road, and say they've struggled to get meaningful action from city and school officials so far.
   

5. NASA Tests Advanced Dual Mode Propulsion CubeSat Ahead of Historic Spaceflight Demonstration (dailygalaxy.com) — Engineers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville have finished major environmental tests on a new CubeSat that will demonstrate a dual-mode propulsion system in orbit. The mission, managed from Huntsville, aims to show how one non-toxic fuel can power both high-thrust and low-thrust engines, potentially shaping future small-satellite designs and keeping the city at the center of advanced space technology work.
