Kite Surfer, Paddleboarder Rescued Off Alameda Sunday
The kite surfer got into trouble, so the paddleboarder went out to help. Both needed rescuing by the fire department.

ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda Fire Department Rescue Swimmers in Rescue Boat 1 saved a kite surfer and a paddleboarder on Sunday afternoon. They were safely brought to shore. Neither one was hospitalized.
The fire department was notified that someone was in distress in the water at around 1:30 p.m. off the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Kittyhawk Road.
Arriving crews located someone about 300 yards offshore. Using binoculars, a firefighter spotted two people in the water — one with a kite surfboard and the other with a paddleboard.

After rescuing the pair, firefighters learned that the kite surfer lost her kite in the water and called a friend for help. The friend on the paddleboard made it out to the kite surfer, but couldn't get them both back to shore.
It has been a hectic month for water rescues off Alameda and Bay Farm islands.
