3 Injured In Stabbing At Lafayette BART Station

Police used canines to track the suspect who ran into an adjacent neighborhood.

LAMORINDA, CA — BART Police are searching for the suspect in a stabbing that injured three people at the Lafayette BART Station. The stabbing happened around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, according to BART. Earlier, Lafayette people said that the attack happened around 10.

BART reports that the incident started as a robbery. When the intended victim refused to relinquish his backpack the suspect pulled a knife.

According to a BART report, "The first victim, described as a 20 year old male, sustained a minor injury to the head. A second victim, described as a 19 year old male, sustained a hand injury. Both were transported to John Muir Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries. It is unclear whether they know each other, or if they have any relationship with the attacker. A third injured party was reported by witnesses but left the scene before police arrived."

The suspect is described as a white man between the ages of 20 and 40, and he was wearing a green army jacket and a black backpack.

Officers used canines to search the neighborhood around the station, according to Lafayette Police. No arrest has been announced.

BART trains rolled through the Lafayette station without stopping for about four hours. Police have finished processing the scene and the station has been cleaned. Service has returned to normal.
