Missing Hiker in Sunol Wilderness
The Palo Alto man was expected back yesterday and has not returned.

A 70-year-old Palo Alto man who went hiking in the Sunol Regional Wilderness was reported missing Wednesday, according to East Bay Regional Park District police. Irwin “Don” Meyers left his home at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to take a hike on the Maguire Peak Trail and planned to return for a late lunch, police said. Meyers was reported missing by his partner at 6:50 p.m. after he never arrived home.
His car was found off of Welch Creek Road near the Upper Maguire Peak Trail entrance, police said. He is in good shape and has hiked the trail before. Search and rescue crews scoured the area until early this morning but were unable to find him. They planned to resume when the sun came up today. Meyers is described as a white man standing 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slender build and dark hair.
