Girl Arrested For The Murder Of 12-Year-Old In School Hallway Attack: Police
A girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder, LAPD said, in the incident where a student died after being hit with a metal water bottle.

RESEDA, CA — A juvenile has been arrested in connection with the death of a 12-year-old girl who died after what her family says was a bullying incident in a school hallway, police said Friday.
The girl, who was not further identified because she is a juvenile, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman told Patch.
He said the investigation into the incident that killed Khimberly Zavaleta in February is continuing.

Khimberly died Feb. 25 from a brain injury she suffered when another student threw a metal water bottle at her head during an incident on Feb. 17 at Reseda High School, her family has said.
Witnesses said Khimberly had been trying to protect her older sister from bullies when another 12-year-old girl threw the bottle, KTLA reported.

Khimberly suffered "a catastrophic medical emergency," according to a GoFundMe campaign established to help her family, when major blood vessels in her brain ruptured and she was rushed to UCLA Children's Hospital.
She underwent emergency brain surgery but did not survive, according to the GoFundMe.
The Los Angeles Unified School District released a statement saying it was deeply saddened by the death of a Reseda High School student. The district did not release additional information about the incident to protect student confidentiality.
"The District takes the safety and well-being of our students very seriously. We are currently cooperating with law enforcement in connection with this incident," school officials said.
Khimberly's family has said it is filing a lawsuit against the district, saying officials failed to investigate reports of bullying on campus, failed to supervise students and failed to implement safety measures, the KTLA report said.
