New Sales and Use Tax Rates in Newark, East Bay Effective April 1

Starting Wednesday, many East Bay cities will see an increase in sales tax. Residents in Pinole, El Cerrito and Richmond will see rate hikes. In Alameda County, all unincorporated areas and the cities of Alameda, Berkeley, Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Livermore, Newark, Oakland, Piedmont, Albany, Hayward, San Leandro, Union City and Pleasanton face sales tax increases.

Here is what you need to know about the new rates where you live and work, according to the California State Board of Equalization in Sacramento:

The California State Board of Equalization (BOE) reminds Californians that that new sales and use tax rates are taking effect on April 1, 2015, as a result of voter-approved initiatives in several cities and counties throughout the state.

The tax rate changes listed apply only within the indicated city limits or county lines. Please note that an increase in the county tax rate affects all cities in those counties.

To find the tax rate in your area or business location, please visit our website atwww.boe.ca.gov and click on the Find a Tax Rate by Address link to find the tax rate for a specific address. The new tax rates will be available on this website on April 1.

You may also call our Customer Service Center at 1-800-400-7115 (TTY:711) where representatives are available to assist you weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Pacific time), except state holidays, to obtain local tax rates.
