Novato Woman Killed In Las Vegas Shooting

BREAKING: Stacee Etcheber, the wife of a San Francisco police officer and a mother of two, was killed in the tragic shooting.

NOVATO, CA — A Novato woman was among the people who lost their lives in Sunday's mass shooting in Las Vegas. According to a Facebook post Tuesday morning by her brother-in-law, Stacee Etcheber, 50, wife of San Francisco Police Officer Vinnie Etcheber and the mother of two children, died after a gunman opened fire Sunday night at a country music festival in Las Vegas.

"It's with a heavy heart and deep sorrow, Stacee Etcheber has passed away," Al Etcheber said on Facebook. "Please pray for our family during this difficult time. She leaves behind two adoring beautiful children and an amazing husband."

Etcheber and her husband were among the 22,000 concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest Festival near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, where at least 59 people were killed and more than 500 were injured in the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history.

In posts on Facebook, Al Etcheber said the couple was separated in the chaos following the shooting.

Vincent Etcheber told his wife to flee the scene while he stayed behind to help victims, according to a statement from San Francisco Police Officers Association President Martin Halloran. She did not have a cellphone with her and had given her identification card to her husband.

"With heavy hearts, the San Francisco Police Department today mourns the passing of Stacee Etcheber," San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said in a statement. "Stacee was taken in a senseless act of violence as her husband, SFPD Officer Vinnie Etcheber, heroically rushed to aid shooting victims in Las Vegas on Sunday.

"Stacee was a beloved mother of two young children and a well-loved hairstylist in Marin County," Scott said. "As we grieve, we ask the public to keep the Etcheber family in their thoughts, along with all of the victims of this tragic incident."

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee offered his condolences to the victims.

"We are sending our deepest condolences and sympathies to the hundreds of families affected by this senseless act of gun violence," Lee said in a statement.

Gov. Jerry Brown also released a statement and said Capitol flags would be flown at half-staff in recognition of the victims and their families.

"Our prayers and deepest sympathies are with the families and loved ones of those killed and injured in last night's tragic and senseless shooting, and we stand with the people of Nevada in this difficult time," Brown said.

A vigil is planned for Stacee Etcheber at San Ramon Elementary School at 45 San Ramon Way in Novato at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
