Firefighters salvaged half of an artist’s home and many of his belongings when the house caught fire Thursday morning in Pinole, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. The incident was reported in the 2400 block of Lucas Avenue at 6:40 a.m. Thursday.
When firefighters arrived they found roughly half of the home was already involved in the fire, with 20-foot flames coming from the front and side of the building. Once crews were able to go inside to finish putting out the fire and salvage the resident’s belongings, firefighters say they were careful to cover or remove artwork and other valuables from the home, fire officials said. Firefighters estimated that roughly 50 percent of the home was saved from the fire.
