Pleasanton Mail Theft Suspects Evade Police, Toss Mail During Pursuit

The stolen mail was recovered and the suspects are still at large, according to police.

A car driven by suspects who were allegedly reaching into residential mailboxes fled from officers early this morning, Pleasanton Police officials said. Witnesses reported the suspicious car in the area of Foothill Road around 5:20 a.m., according to a statement released by police.

In the statement police officials said, “The driver (an unidentified female with blonde hair) and other occupants of the vehicle were reportedly reaching into mailboxes in the neighborhood. Upon officers’ arrival, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and turned northbound on Foothill Road. A spike strip was successfully deployed on Foothill Road but the vehicle was not sufficiently disabled. The suspects continued northbound at high speeds while tossing stolen mail from the vehicle. The vehicle ran multiple red lights and eventually turned eastbound on the westbound off-ramp from I-580, heading the wrong way into heavy traffic on the freeway. The pursuit was terminated, and a short time later CHP received reports of a wrong-way driver heading northbound I-680 in the southbound lanes. Extensive area checks did not locate the vehicle. Stolen mail was recovered from several locations along Foothill Road and will be returned to the victims.”

The car is described as a white Buick Rendezvous with gray trim and paper plates.
