Standoff Suspect Arrested In Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, CA — Police confirm a man who held officers at bay for more than three hours on Tuesday afternoon was arrested at his former Pleasanton residence Thursday morning. Scott Hagan, 55, allegedly took shelter in the basement of his former home after having a brief verbal altercation with an officer who tried to conduct a traffic stop of Hagan's car. Officials said the home was unoccupied.

Hagan was recently released from jail after being arrested by another police agency on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.

On Tuesday afternoon, police said an officer on patrol saw a white Chevy Silverado truck driving erratically on First Street. The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop and the driver, later identified as Hagan, got out of his truck and started yelling threats at the officer while advancing on him, police said. Hagan got back into his truck and fled the area.

"Another officer initiated a short vehicle pursuit which ended abruptly when Hagan drove to his former unoccupied residence, on Old Stanley Boulevard, and ran inside the basement," police said in a statement. "Officers attempted to communicate with Hagan, who yelled at officers and refused to comply with orders to exit the basement."

Police said they tried for hours to negotiate with Hagan, a local bail bondsman, who was unarmed.

"After exhausting all attempts to communicate with Hagan, and believing he may be in crisis, officers did not make entry and have sought a warrant for his arrest," police said.

Old Stanley Boulevard between Main and First streets were closed for about three hours during the standoff and have since reopened. Witnesses in the surrounding neighborhood reported multiple police cars parked blocking the road.
