The seals were released at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison on Thursday morning.
The event will feature "food, prizes, and much fun."
The hunt, which organizers say is the first of what will be an annual event, benefits the Connecticut Cancer Foundation of Old Saybrook.
The walk will be 2.5 miles roundtrip, according to organizers.
The Wellington at Madison is near Hammonasset Beach State Park.
The event is sponsored by the Madison Shellfish Commission.
The mat was installed at West Wharf Beach earlier this month.
