2 Shot While Inside Restaurant: New Haven Police

The two shooting victims are 17 and 22 years-old, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two people were shot inside a restaurant in New Haven, police said.

At 5:33 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a restaurant in the 200 block of Grand Avenue on a report of a gunshot victim.

Officers found the victim, a 22-year-old East Haven man, with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Shortly after, a second shooting victim, a 17-year-old male from Hamden, arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle, police said. While on the scene, police determined one of the possible shooters was still inside the restaurant.

Naquea Bratton, 21, of New Haven, was detained, and he had a high-capacity magazine in his pocket, police said.

"The investigation showed that the juvenile male was sitting at a table inside the restaurant when he was approached by Bratton and a second male," police said. "A fight ensued during which the second male and the juvenile were both shot. Following the shooting, the two shooting victims fled while Bratton remained in the restaurant and attempted to hide a gun, where he was located by officers. A second firearm was also located during a search."

Bratton is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, two counts of illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, and larceny of a motor vehicle. He is being held in lieu of a $200,000 bond. Both shooting victims were determined to have non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Additional arrests are expected, police added.
