Cops ID New Haven Man, 33, Fatally Shot In Car On Whalley Ave.: PD
5th 2023 homicide: Michael Wint was gunned down in a car, another man went to the hospital with critical gunshot wounds in double-shooting.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A double-shooting on Whalley Avenue at around 1 a.m. Saturday left one man dead and another critically injured, police said.
Cops were inside the Sam's Mart at 285 Whalley Ave., when a citizen ran into the store to report a man had been shot "while sitting inside a white sedan across the street," according to police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell. The man was found wounded in a vehicle catty-corner from the mart at the intersection of Sherman and Whalley avenues, home to several shops.
Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, Michael Wint, 33, of New Haven, was pronounced dead, Dell said.

Soon after, Dell said. another man "walked into the hospital" with gunshot wounds to his lower
back and stomach. He's hospitalized in critical but stable condition, she said.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the two shootings are related," Dell said, adding two guns were found at the scene.
Major Crimes Division detectives are leading the investigation. Police ask that anyone who witnessed the shootings or "who may have information valuable" are urged to call police at 203-946-6304 or through the anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
Wint's slaying marks the fifth homicide in New Haven so far this year.
First homicide of 2023
At just after 3 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2023, New Haven police got a Shotspotter alert of gunfire on Grand Avenue, between Poplar Street and Blatchley Avenue. When police got there, they found Dontae Myers, 23, of New Haven, shot, police said. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, he died from his injuries.
Second homicide of 2023
Friday night at 8 p.m., cops got a Shotspotter alert about gunfire and a person shot on Pond Lily Avenue, between Valley Street and the dead-end of Pond Lily Avenue, police said. When police got to the scene, they found Charles Miller, a 41-year-old West Haven man, who'd been shot, police said. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, Miller died from the gunshot injuries.
Third homicide of 2023
On the night of Jan. 4, just outside the Saint Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital, a man was shot. It was around 9:30 p.m. when cops got a 911 call about a shooting on Chapel Street, between Beers and Orchard streets. Monday, police confirmed that Kentel Robinson, 30, of New Haven died from his injuries three days later, on Jan. 7. Robinson's death marks the third New Haven homicide of 2023, just a week into the new year.
Fourth homicide of 2023
On Jan., 18, at around 8:30 p.m., cops got a call about a "person down"on Chapel Street, near James Street. When officers got to the scene, they found a 40-year-old New Haven man Alexander Pedraza who had been shot at River and James streets, he said.
