[UPDATE] Missing Easton Couple's Son Arrested After Feds Found Gun, Drugs in Home

Federal authorities have arrested the son of the missing Easton couple on federal firearms charges. Investigators also found illegal drugs.

Update 4:55 p.m.:

The United States Department of Justice released new information related to the arrest of Kyle Navin, 27, of Bridgeport.

According to the release, federal and local officials announced Tuesday that Kyle Navin was arrested on a federal criminal complaint that charged him with “possession of a firearm by an individual who is an unlawful user of, or addicted to, any controlled substance.

On August 7, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies began investigating the disappearance of Navin’s parents, Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin of Easton. When investigators conducted a court-authorized search of Kyle Navin’s Bridgeport home on Aug. 13, they seized two firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition from his bedroom.

A second search on August 19, 2015, allegedly turned up numerous heroin brand-stamped glassine baggies with heroin residue, hypodermic needles, empty prescription bottles for oxycodone and prescription bottles containing other controlled substances, federal officials said.

Investigators conducted a court-authorized search of Kyle Navin’s cellphone and found numerous text messages that allegedly discuss his use of heroin, oxycodone and Xanax, federal officials said.

If convicted on the unlawful possession of a firearm charge, Navin faces up to a maximum of 10 years in prison. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon and is currently being detained.

Federal authorities have arrested the son of the missing Easton couple on federal firearms charges, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Kyle Navin, 26, is the son of missing Easton couple Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin who were reported missing by a relative on Aug. 7, 2015.

Patch reported on Aug. 28 that a Superior Court judge has sealed the warrants that Connecticut state police received to search the home and property of Kyle Navin. Court officials said that Fairfield County State’s Attorney John Smriga filed a motion to keep records sealed until Sept. 11, 2015, the paper reported.

Police said they believe he was one of the last people to see the couple before they disappeared.

State police found blood and a bullet in their truck on Aug. 9 in a commuter parking lot off the Merritt Parkway. Police also searched a landfill in Putnam County.

Jeffrey Navin owns J & J Refuse Inc. and Kyle Navin is listed as the operations manager on the company’s website. Jeanette Navin worked as a Paraprofessional at Weston Intermediate School.
