10 New Coronavirus Deaths In DC; 6,871 Total Confirmed Cases

D.C. Health Department confirmed 10 new coronavirus deaths in the District, bringing the total to 368.

WASHINGTON, DC — The D.C. Department of Health confirmed 10 new deaths Friday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of coronavirus deaths in the District to 368.

D.C. Health also confirmed 135 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the overall total to 6,871.

The new deaths in the District are described as:

  • 56-year-old male
  • 60-year-old female
  • 60-year-old male

  • 66-year-old male
  • 73-year-old male
  • 78-year-old female
  • 83-year-old male
  • 84-year-old male
  • 91-year-old female

D.C. Health has confirmed 34,339 District residents have been tested for the coronavirus and 975 have recovered. Contact tracing investigations are focused positive cases tied to health care workers and first responders, senior care facilities, correctional and detention centers, child care facilities and facilities serving homeless individuals.

On Wednesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser extended her stay-at-home order three weeks. The original order was due to expire on Friday. District residents will need to stay at home and non-essential business will continue to remain closed through Monday, June 8.

Globally, more than 4.4 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 302,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Friday morning. In the United States, more than 1.4 million people have been infected and over 85,000 people have died from COVID-19.
