How do Hurricanes Helene and Milton Rank in Inflation Adjusted Cost$?

Tragedies are often measured in terms of lost or injured lives and in the estimated costs for human or natural disasters. A graphical look.

According to an article on Inc. about Hurricane Helene and Milton: “Each hurricane is likely to be a $50 billion disaster, joining the ranks of the most costly U.S. storms,” on 10.17.2024. On the same day, left-leaning CBS News said: “Helene, Milton losses expected to surpass "truly historic" $50 billion each.” So, how does that compare in inflation adjusted dollars in cost to other U.S. hurricanes?

So, based on the information provided by Visual Capitalist (VC), as bad as Helene and Milton have been, it was not as bad in dollars of financial losses as Hurricanes Andrew, Irma, Sandy, Ian, and Katrina.

Thankfully here in Polk County, Florida, most power has been restored. But a drive along city streets will reveal roofs ripped off and other structural damage, street signs twisted, harmed or destroyed, piles of limbs or felled trees, and more.

Burning Bush Cove, Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and Where Is God?

When Hurricane Katrina caused death and devastation, the George W. Bush-Dick Cheney (R) administration – along with local officials – were often ripped by local officials. So, why is there any surprise that Kamala Harris (D) and Joe Biden and FEMA are getting criticized for their handling of Helene or Milton?

You may have seen social media clips of people complaining about hundreds of billions of dollars going to help people overseas, or to house and feed illegal immigrants in the U.S., and yet the response by the feds seem to be slow and stingy by comparison.

Government is supposed to work for its own citizens' interests first. I'm a believer in legal immigration. I'm the son of legal immigrants. My wife came to the U.S. legally too. Most legal immigrants, regardless of race or other 'identity group' status often feel similarly.

An election is looming. Were food, housing, fuel, utilities, insurance, vehicles more costly for you under Kamala Harris (D) and Joe Biden (D) or while President Donald J. Trump (R) was in office?

In a recent poll, 79 percent of the population say the nation is on the wrong track. It is rather silly for someone who was in power to say that what is going wrong in the U.S. now is somehow Trump's fault. If Harris and Biden made things worse, why should thinking people vote for worse? Voting is upon us. To learn more, see the linked reports that follow. ##
