🔎 Atlanta renters: A real apartment photo can hide a fake listing
Love the apartment. Verify who is offering it. 🔎🔑
Hey Atlanta, it’s Kenny! Before an exciting listing turns into an application, give the contact details the same attention as the photos.
The FTC warns that scammers can copy a real rental’s photos and description, then substitute their own contact information. A convincing listing—or even access to a tour—is not proof that the person collecting money represents the property.
Look up the address and management company independently. Compare the listing with the company’s own website, and contact the company through information you have verified separately—not only the number supplied in the ad.
If someone pressures you to pay immediately, pause. Demands to pay only by gift card, cryptocurrency or a wire-transfer service are scam warnings. Don’t send identity documents or financial details to an unverified contact.
