Autopsy Results Pending On Inmate Who Died At Hospital

The man was found unresponsive July 12 at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

CANTON, GA — It will take a little longer to determine the cause of death of the Cherokee County inmate who pronounced dead last week at the hospital. That's according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which said its Crime Lab has completed the autopsy on Brice Laurence Turner, 33, of Woodstock.

However, GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles told Patch that the official results are pending "additional forensic testing."

Turner was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 after he was arrested on charges by the Woodstock Police Department.

After jailers found Turner unresponsive in his cell, he was transported by ambulance to the hospital at 1:04 a.m. July 12 after "deputies and medical staff administered lifesaving efforts and it was determined his health was declining," Cherokee Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley.

Turner had been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, improper lane change and crossing guard lines with drugs. No other inmates were in his cell during his time at the Adult Detention Center, Sgt. Kelley added.
