Gwinnett Grand Jury Will Hear Victor Hill Case

The Clayton County sheriff is facing reckless conduct in the May accident shooting of friend Gwenevere McCord in Gwinnett County.

The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office said it will present the accidental shooting case against Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill to the grand jury.

The office announced the decision in a Thursday afternoon statement.

Hill is facing misdemeanor reckless conduct stemming from the May 3 shooting of Gwenevere McCord at a Gwinnett model home where McCord worked as a sales agent. McCord, reportedly a friend of Hill’s, was severely wounded in the incident; sheΒ survived.

The model home is located on Britt Trail Drive, situated in the Tribble Mill area of unincorporated Gwinnett County.

McCord was shot in the abdomen, and has endured several medical procedures since the incident, including the use of a ventilator. She told police the shooting was an accident while she and Hill were practicing β€œpolice tactics,” according to previous reports on Patch.

Misdemeanors are typically handled through the solicitor-general’s office and therefore not normally presented to a grand jury, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Here’s the entire press release from the DA’s Office:

After consultation with Gwinnett Solicitor-General Rosanna Szabo, we both felt that the best course of action would be present the case to the Grand Jury.

The District Attorney’s Office will prepare the appropriate charging documents and send out all notices required by law. Once the Grand Jury has made its decision in the case, Ms. Szabo and I will meet again to decide the best course of action to reach a resolution of this case.

It is unknown when the case might be presented.
