Dallas Public House Rebounds With 'A' Follow-Up Inspection

After black and pink mold and other problems led to a failing inspection, the Dallas restaurant cleaned up its act with a 91/A.

DALLAS, GA — A bar and restaurant in Dallas has earned an "A" rating on a follow-up health inspection, after failing amid reports of mold on food and in the ice machine during a previous check.

Dallas Public House, at 1305 Cedarcrest Rd., scored a 91/A on the inspection, which is dated Saturday, July 1.

That's a sharp turnaround from the restaurant's June 19 inspection, when it scored a 56/U.

On Saturday's inspection report, the only problem keeping Dallas Public House from earning a perfect score was a problem with some vegetables and other food items being stored at the wrong temperature.

Those foods were tossed out and, according to the report, the restaurant had a technician on the way to fix its cooler.

"We had some issues to fix, and got the thumbs up from Dept. Of health," Dallas Public House posted on its Facebook page. "In celebration of our A rating we will offer 1/2 price appetizers for the next 2 weeks!! See you soon!"

(The inspector's report is dated Saturday, July 1, but the check may actually have been conducted the day before. Dallas Public House's Facebook post was on Friday.)

The single problem and "A" score stand in sharp contrast to the last time inspectors checked out the restaurant.

According to the June 19 report, inspectors found a "black, mold-like substance" on some feta cheese in the restaurant's kitchen. They also found a "pink and black mold-like substance" in the ice machine.

The report said the person in charge at the pub "lacks active managerial control." That person was unaware of health information needed for running a restaurant and didn't have the proper equipment for cleaning up if a customer gets sick at the restaurant, the report said.

Items were stored without being covered, a cook was while wearing a charm bracelet, a reach-in cooler was broken, shelves in the cooler were rusty, there was mold on top of one cooler and standing water in another.

The moldy food and foods found to be out of temperature or uncovered were thrown out and employees cleaned areas that were found to be moldy or dirty, according to the report.

Dallas Public House had scored an 87/B on its last inspection, in March 2016, and the exact same score on a November 2015 inspection.
