Graduation Rates Dip at Paulding County Schools

The 2016 graduation rate declined less than a percentage point compared to 2015.

DALLAS, GA — Graduation rates at Paulding County high schools dipped slightly this year.

All five high schools saw a decrease in 2016 graduation rates compared to 2015, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Paulding had an overall graduation rate of 79 percent in 2016, down from 79.8 percent in 2015, according to numbers released Tuesday by the Georgia Department of Education.

That rate was just a small fraction behind the statewide average graduation rate of 79.2 percent.

Hiram High School's graduation rate declined 3 percent, from 78.9 percent in 2015 to 75.9 percent in 2016.

Paulding County High School had the lowest decline, dropping just 0.6 percent from 69.3 percent in 2015 to 68.7 percent in 2016.

North Paulding's rate dropped 1 percent, from 92.1 percent to 91.1 percent.

South Paulding saw a 1.1 percent drop, from 81.1 percent in 2015 to 80 percent in 2016.

East Paulding dropped 1.7 percent, from 81.1 percent in 2015 to 79.4 percent in 2016.

The four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate is calculated by using the group of students who enter ninth grade at a school or district and finding the percentage of the same students who graduate within four years — adjusting the rate to factor in student transfers.
