GreyStone Selects New Board Chair

Board Chair Jennifer DeNyse strives to keep co-op in sound financial condition.

GreyStone Power’s Board of Directors recently elected officers for the following year and selected Jennifer DeNyse as Chair, Jim Johns as Vice Chair and Milton Jones as Secretary-Treasurer. Members who receive electric service from GreyStone elect directors to serve in nine districts in the cooperative’s service area. DeNyse represents District 5, Carroll and Douglas counties, Johns represents District 8, Douglas County, and Jones represents District 7, Fulton County.

A decade ago, DeNyse became GreyStone’s first woman on the Board of Directors in the cooperative’s then 68-year history. After the passing of Director Robert Sprayberry in late 2003, DeNyse was appointed by the Board in February 2004 and then re-elected by members in the fall of that year. She previously served as the Board Secretary-Treasurer.

When DeNyse joined the co-op’s Board, she brought years of experience as a business owner through her role as President and CFO of DeNyse Companies. “The timing seemed right for me to apply my business experience to a local Board. The understanding I’ve gained over 20 years by making decisions at an executive level gave me the confidence to apply for it in 2004. I felt I could be an asset, while at the same time learning more about our electric cooperative. I enjoy being a part of such a top-notch, community-minded company,” she said.

For DeNyse, the most rewarding part about serving on the Board so far has been the people. “I find the cooperative employees, members and Board very willing to work toward a common goal, which is our mission of bringing our members cost efficient, reliable energy and services 24/7,” she said.

DeNyse said that as a new officer, she will draw on the experience of senior Board members. “I am honored to chair a very hard working group of representative members who all have our cooperative’s mission at the forefront of every decision. That allows us to move swiftly and cohesively, but this year we have three new officers so it will be key to the Board to utilize and tap into the experience and knowledge of the senior Board members while they are still serving. It is my goal that through planning and preparedness for future changes we will help ensure our Board’s continued success,” she said.

“As in the past, I have treated the cooperative’s money as if it were my own business and will always strive to keep the cooperative in sound financial condition so that we may provide the level of service our members expect and deserve,” DeNyse added.
