Hiram Arson Fire: Police Agencies Work Together For Aerial Video

Hiram Police worked with Douglas County Sheriff's deputies to capture drone footage of a Feb. 18 arson scene that destroyed a neighborhood.

HIRAM, GA — The Hiram Police Department worked together with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, borrowing their drone with an attached camera, in order to capture an arson scene that destroyed a Paulding neighborhood Feb. 18.

A woman has been arrested, authorities say, for getting drunk and setting fire to her home. The blaze quickly spread to neighboring Hiram homes, ultimately destroying four and damaging 15 others. No one was injured, but two dogs and one cat were killed in the blaze. At least three families are displaced.

"We thought it was important to collect an overall scene of the damage," said Officer Stephen Johnston, Hiram Police. "We don't have the capability to do that with the camera we have. Rather than just rely on series of photos, we thought the drone video would capture the whole scene better.
