Paulding SWAT Standoff Follows Shot Fired At Deputies

The suspect had a high-powered rifle and injured one deputy, who was hit by shattered glass, authorities say.

PAULDING COUNTY, GA -- An hours-long standoff that stretched late into the night has ended, after a Paulding County man fired a shot at deputies.

Deputies were called to a home with an Acworth address at about noon Monday, WSB-TV reported. They said a man there had been threatening suicide.

When they tried to knock on the door, the suspect fired a high-powered rifle at the deputies. Shattered glass injured one of them, authorities said.

They were joined by Cobb County's SWAT team and a standoff ensued.

At one point, team members lobbed several canisters of gas into the home, but the suspect still didn't come out.

Neighbors were asked to stay away during the standoff, which ended at about 11 p.m. Police said no one else was inside the home during the standoff.
