Shooting in Nearby Neighborhood Prompted Hiram High Lockdown

Hiram High School was locked down for a period Wednesday afternoon due to a reported shooting in a neighborhood near the high school.

The school said in a statement that the school was placed on a ”hard lockdown” around 2:15 p.m.
That’s shortly after Paulding County deputies responded to a reported shooting death on Baywood Way, which is located in the neighborhood behind the school. See related story.

In the Hiram High statement, school officials said the administration was in constant contact with the sheriff’s office and the school district’s central office during the incident.
From the statement:
“Given the proximity of the crime scene to the school and the search for the suspect, the District, in coordination with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, secured the campus and held all students and staff inside the school until the Sheriff’s Office felt it was safe to move the school to a soft lockdown, where it remained for the rest of the afternoon. Dismissal occurred as normal.”

Hiram High School is currently on lockdown due to a shooting in the area. All students and staff are being kept inside the building.
