HIRAM, GA — Three people could face criminal charges after they were involved in a fight Thursday afternoon at a Sam's Club in Hiram, Georgia.

Hiram Police said at 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to Sam’s Club, 4798 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway, regarding an assault in progress. Paulding County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Hiram Police officers arrived and found two men with injuries, and a small crowd gathered around them.

Officers determined that a man was using a motorized shopping cart, due to a recent leg injury, and bumped the cart into another shopping cart which had a child in it.

A man and woman with the child confronted the man in the motorized shopping cart, and the woman hit that man while "accusing him of ramming her shopping cart while her child was inside it," police said.

The man attempted to back away from the confrontation, but the couple escalated the confrontation, police said.

Both men then grabbed wine bottles and hitting each other with them, the police report said. The altercation continued after the bottles were broken, causing cuts to both men. The fight ended on the ground with both men fighting among the broken glass.

Bystanders assisted in separating the men until police arrived.

This incident is still under investigation, so police said no names are being released at this time. However, criminal charges have been prepared for all three persons involved. The two men were treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the altercation.

"Despite rumors reportedly circulating social media, there are no indications that this incident was related to an altercation over water, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, or any other supplies being sought in connection to the concerns over COVID-19 (Coronavirus)," Hiram Police said. "No traditional weapons (firearms or knives) were involved in this incident."
