• Demorest Council tackles tax, water issues Thursday (nowgeorgia.com) — Demorest residents have a chance Thursday night to hear and weigh in as the city council tackles water system spending, cemetery rules, zoning changes, and a new sales-tax option that could affect property taxes. The meeting, open to the public, starts with a 6 p.m. work session and 7 p.m. regular session at the Demorest Municipal Conference Center on Alabama Street.
   

• Martha 'Kitty' Thompson Stephens (habershamnews.com) — Demorest is mourning the passing of Martha “Kitty” Thompson Stephens, 84, who entered into eternal rest on July 5 after a long life devoted to family and community. A longtime restaurant owner in Florida and later a Demorest resident, she leaves children in Clarkesville and Florida, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and is remembered for her warmth, creativity, and generosity.
