Douglas School District Achieves Distinguished Board Status

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Douglas County School Superintendent Trent North is proud to announce that Douglas County Schools are being served by a Georgia School Boards Association, or GSBA, 2018 Distinguished School Board.

The recognition program was designed to showcase best practices in school governance and leadership. GSBA recognizes good school board governance to foster educational community cultures and advance student learning and achievement.

The Georgia School Board Association awarded the 2018 Distinguished Board distinction to the Douglas County School Board for meeting and exceeding the criteria set forth by GSBA during the GSBA and Georgia School Superintendents Association Conference in Savannah on June 8 and 9.

Criteria for receiving distinguished board status include an implemented System Strategic Plan that includes balanced scorecards on completing district goals. To review additional criteria, click here for more information.

Superintendent North is excited that the board’s leadership skills and commitment to public education have been recognized on a statewide level. “This is a tremendous honor. It represents our board members commitment to maintaining high leadership standards so that we may continue to provide a first-class education for our students.”

The GSBA Governance Team Recognition Program was developed by Georgia superintendents and board members based on the state board of education’s standards for effective governance to recognize distinguished leadership.

In 1998, the Georgia School Boards Association was one of the first school board associations in the nation to develop a program of standards for local boards of education.
