Weekend Pigskin Roundup: All 3 Schools Fall

Each Monday we'll take a look at what happened on the gridiron over the weekend in Douglasville Patch.

North Paulding 21, Douglas County 19 – North Paulding scored first Friday, according to the Douglas County Sentinel, and its defense held on the final drive of the game to narrowly edge the Tigers by two points.

North Paulding was up 15-0 late in the second quarter before Elliott Thompson caught a touchdown pass in the waning moments of the half to give Douglas County momentum.

The Tigers scored in the fourth quarter to bring the game to within two points, but a failed two-point conversion ended hope for Douglas County.

Pope 49, Alexander 28 – handled business on Friday, earning its first region title since 2000, according to the Marietta Daily Journal.

As the Region 5N-AAAA No. 1 seed, Pope hosted the No. 4 seed from the South subregion, , in a loser-go-home game. The Greyhounds scored on their first drive and put up 21 points before Alexander could score.

Alexander quarterback Dempsey Abernathy attempted to bring the Cougars back from a huge deficit, but Pope put the game out of reach early in the fourth quarter.

Sprayberry 37, Chapel Hill 34 (2OT) – Senior quarterback Jacob Chesser scored the deciding touchdown in the second overtime period, according to the Marietta Daily Journal, and sent to the playoffs with the win.

Chesser rushed for three scores and threw for another Friday.

scored first with just over three minutes to play in the first quarter on a Derrick Parker touchdown. But the Yellow Jackets sped to answer, scoring just two minutes later in what would be a back-and-forth game.
