Latest Coronavirus Updates: 29 Confirmed Cases In Lemont Area
Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Lemont.
LEMONT, IL — The new coronavirus outbreak in Illinois and across the country is having vast impacts in Lemont, including the closure of several local businesses, the library, park district and schools.
As of Wednesday, the number of cases in Illinois is 16,422 and 528 people have died from the coronavirus. Public health officials released a map showing the locations of all confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in suburban Cook County. As of April 8, there are 4,299 confirmed cases in suburban Cook County, and 142 deaths.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is also reporting there are 29 confirmed cases of coronavirus in zip code 60439 as of April 9.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has also recommended that everyone wear a cloth facial covering — not a medical mask, as those should be reserved for health care professionals — when they must go out in public.

Governor JB Pritzker has issued a stay-at-home order in effect until April 30. With this order, only essential businesses like grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants offering carry-out services can remain open.

The Lemont Public Library District is inviting community members to document history through writing, art and more during the coronavirus pandemic and then to donate those items to the library. MORE.
FOOD PANTRIES
In addition to the already operating Lemont food pantries, Lemont Township has set up a temporary food bank at its offices at 1115 Warner Ave. The other two pantries are located at Bethany Lutheran Church, 500 Lemont St.; and at Lemont United Methodist Church, 25 W. Custer St. MORE.
SCHOOLS
Schools across Illinois, and in Lemont, will be closed until April 30, per Pritzker's stay-at-home order. MORE.
BUSINESSES
Lemont Patch is gathering information from local businesses to create a business directory for residents to access during this time. MORE.
The village of Lemont will hold a Zoom town hall to discuss the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act and other resources for small businesses. The town hall will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday and you can register online. MORE.
HOSPITALS
Two meal trains have been created for the Silver Cross Hospital ICU and Emergency Room staff. MORE.
Silver Cross Hospital has now implemented universal masking, which requires all employees and medical staff members to wear a cloth or procedural mask at all times at all Silver Cross locations. MORE.
Silver Cross Hospital has released a new video with President and Chief Executive Officer Ruth Colby and obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Gamilah Pierre of Partners in Obstetrics & Women's Health to discuss pregnancy and giving birth during the coronavirus pandemic. MORE.
CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES
The Archdiocese of Chicago has suspended all normal religious services, which includes celebrations for Easter Week. The services are canceled until further notice. The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs has also suspended its Friday services. MORE.
The Lemont Public Library will be closed through the month of April due to the stay-at-home order. The library plans to reopen May 4. Checked-out materials will not be due until after the library reopens.
The Lemont Park District remains closed through April 30, and all programs for April have been canceled. In addition, playgrounds, play equipment, basketball courts, pickleball courts, tennis courts, the pavilions, and the skate park are also all closed. Open space and trails are open.
The annual town meeting for Lemont Township scheduled for April 14 has been postponed until further notice.
