"New Groundbreaking Piscataway Exhibit

Historic London Town and Gardens, with the invaluable assistance of Mario Harley, is proud to introduce its newest exhibit. From [the] earliest beginnings of the tribe’s presence, settlements were located along the banks of major creeks that provided access to flat land for farming, clay soil for pottery, marshes for edible plants, and forests for nut-bearing trees, building material, firewood and medicines. Historically, that meant the lands on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay from the Patapsco River watershed in the north, to the Potomac River watershed in the south, and extending west along the Potomac River watershed to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Read more about Mario’s knowledge of the history of the Piscataway, including interactions between the Piscataway and Europeans through the Colonial Period."
