HARFORD COUNTY, MD — As investigators continue to search for Bel Air mom Rachel Morin's killer, Box Hill Pizzeria and Crab Cakes in Abingdon hosted a fundraiser Thanksgiving weekend to raise money to help support Morin's children this Christmas.

Owner Tom Kanaras' son and the restaurant's manager, Nico Kanaras, came up with the idea for the fundraiser, according to WBAL TV.

"I know (the children are) going through a difficult time. It just makes me feel good that we're able to do it and it makes me feel good that the customers are responding to it,” Tom Kanaras said.

"Ten percent of every check that comes in this door all day long -- shipping, online ordering, our marketplace next door, everything. So, we're just really hoping to give these kids a good Christmas," Nico Kanaras added.

Morin's older sister, Rebekah Morin, said the money generated from the Nov. 24 fundraiser will go toward presents and a trust set up for the children.

"I want to make sure that the things that Rachel would have done, get done for her kids, that is my goal," Rebekah Morin said.

The law firm assisting the Morin family and officials in tracking down her killer has changed its focus to the West Coast. Morin, 37, was reported missing in early August by her boyfriend, Richard Tobin, when she didn't return from her walk on the popular Bel Air Ma and Pa Trail.

DNA evidence from the Morin crime scene matched DNA found at the scene of a March 2023 home invasion and sexual assault of a girl in Los Angeles, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said on Aug. 16. Doorbell camera video provided by the L.A. Police Department captured a brief clip of that man leaving the scene of the alleged home invasion and assault in California.

The law firm representing Rachel Morin's family has sent letters and reward flyers to the principals of five high schools located near the crime scene in Los Angeles, California, where the Bel Air mother's suspected killer was captured on a doorbell camera in separate assault case.

"We know the suspect is approximately 20-30 years old and he may have attended high school around the crime scene in Los Angeles. We are hopeful a former teacher, staff or student recognizes the image and can identify the man," attorney Randolph Rice said in a statement. "Any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrator is encouraged and appreciated."

Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said he believes the suspect could be a serial killer.
"My concern is that this killer is escalating. My investigators and I both firmly believe that if we do not apprehend this individual, he will again, if he has not done so already. And, if given the chance, he certainly could become a serial killer," Gahler said. "Until he is in custody, this suspect poses a threat to every community in our country and maybe outside."

A reward of $30,000 has been offered to anyone who can positively identify the killer and provide information leading to his capture and conviction. Anyone with information related to the Rachel Morin murder case can contact the Harford County Sheriff’s Office at (410) 836-7788 or via email at RMtips@HarfordSheriff.org.
