BOSTON, MA — No injuries have been reported in the aftermath of a large fire at a home in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
More than 80 firefighters responded to the blaze at the home on West Street at approximately 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. According to the Boston Fire Department, heavy smoke and flames can be seen emanating from the second and third floors for the structure, as well as the roof. Firefighters first ascended to the roof in order to battle the blaze but were soon ordered to stay away from the area as the flames intensified in that region. What started as a two-alarm fire was escalated up to four alarms by the time the flames had reached its peak.
At approximately 5 p.m., the department said the majority of the flames had been knocked down. Fire Commissioner Paul Burke said a total of seven adults and one child are now displaced. One of the residents who was home at the time said she heard a loud "boom" noise right as the flames broke out, according to a report from WCVB NewsCenter 5. Burke said damages to the home are estimated to be worth approximately $800,000.
