Brookline Chinese Restaurant Is Closing Its Doors This Summer

The business made the announcement earlier this month.

BROOKLINE, MA — A Coolidge Corner Chinese restaurant announced it will be closing later this year.

Kao Jiu first opened at 406 Harvard St. in 2022, taking over the site from the former Cafe Eilat. Owner Wu Shangyu cited a decision to move back to China as the main reason for closing his business.

“We are incredibly grateful for all the love and support from our amazing community. Every visit, every meal, and every memory shared here has meant so much to us,” Kao Jiu leadership said in a statement. “Before we say goodbye, we hope to welcome you a few more times to enjoy your favorite dishes and celebrate the moments we’ve created together.”

The eatery’s most well-known dishes feature lamb, such as lamb hot pots and kebabs. A diverse selection of noodles is also a signature part of the menu. The interior was designed to resemble a traditional Chinese apothecary.

“Every bite of the perfectly grilled meat and savory noodles was bursting with flavor, making for a truly unforgettable meal,” the restaurant said about its culinary offerings.

Kao Jiu will remain open seven days a week from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant remains open for an extra 30 minutes. Shangyu said the closure will take place this summer, and a more specific timeframe has not yet been announced.

“Thank you for being part of the Kao Jiu family,” the restaurant’s leadership said to its customer base ahead of the closure.
