Brookline Residents Displaced After Large Fire

The blaze broke out at a unit with two apartments.

BROOKLINE, MA — Multiple residents are displaced in the aftermath of a fire at a multi-family residence this past weekend, according to the Brookline Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the three-alarm blaze on 36 Davis Ave. at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1 after the occupants of the home discovered the flames originating from the second floor.

“There was significant damage to the second-floor apartment and roof area as the fire travelled upward. Fire crews from Brookline, Boston and Cambridge responded with covering companies arrived in town from Boston, Cambridge and Newton to cover the town during the fire,” Brookline Fire Chief John Sullivan told Patch. “All occupants of the building safely self-evacuated. There were approximately 6-7 adult occupants of the two apartments who have found alternate lodging for now.”

According to Sullivan, no injuries to civilians or firefighters have been reported. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined however Sullivan said it is not believed to be suspicious.

“We’re grateful that our members made an aggressive stop and protected neighboring homes, and we appreciate the support of our public safety partners and mutual aid companies who responded and covered the town during the incident,” Brookline Firefighters Local 950 workers’ unions said in a statement.
