MALDEN, MA — A fire that broke out at a fast-food restaurant this week is now under investigation, according to the Malden Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the Burger King located at 61 Broadway on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 28. Upon arrival, they encountered an outdoor fire near the exterior wall on the left-hand side of the building.
Initial reports state that the fire started in a mulch bed due to carelessly discarded smoking materials," Chief Stephen Froio told Patch. "The fire extended to a wall."
Froio indicted that the blaze was extinguished relatively easily by the department's Group Two.
The Broadway Burger King is the only location of the chain in the city and has been in operation since 1974. Its drive-thru services are open 24 hours a day seven days a week.
