Protestors Gather Outside Of Congresswoman's Malden Office
The event is centered around an upcoming national vote on a surveillance law.
MALDEN, MA — A protest is currently taking place outside of Democratic Minority WHIP Katherine Clark’s Malden office at 157 Pleasant St.
The gathering is organized by Demand Progress Action, a social welfare organization that advocates for progressive policies. This protest is in opposition to the Section 702 surveillance law, which is scheduled to be voted on by Congress on Monday, April 13. The law is set to expire on Monday, April 20. SOme Republican leaders such as Speaker Mike Johnson have reportedly been advocating in favor of voting for an 18-month extension of the legislation.
“Trump says he wants a "clean" extension of Section 702 — a law the government routinely abuses to spy on Americans without a warrant. Trump and Stephen Miller are trying to thwart the critical, bipartisan privacy reforms pending in Congress,” Demand Progress Action said. “Rep. Katherine Clark is a key vote on whether or not Trump is able to renew these warrantless spying powers. But she is refusing to take a stand against Trump and his mass surveillance plans.”
