Tufts' Institute for Global Leadership presents its 25th Anniversary Symposium, entitled "Our Nuclear Age: Peril and Promise."
William Perry, former U.S. Secretary of Defense, and Rose Gottemoeller, chief negotiator on the new START treaty in spring of 2010, are set to attend. This will be an interesting topic to explore since debate over the use of nuclear weapons has been widespread as the world counts down to the 2020 Vision Campaign, which aims to abolish nuclear weapons by 2020.
Topics of discussion will be varied, and include the threat of nuclear arms in states such as North Korea and Iran, the START treaty, nuclear terrorism, nuclear weapons and the Obama security strategy, and the legacy of Hiroshima.
