Sacco and Vanzetti A Lecture by Christopher Daley
In 1921, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, both Italian-Americans, were convicted of robbery and murder. Although the arguments brought against them were mostly disproven in court, the fact that the two men were known radicals (and that their trial took place during the height of the Red Scare) prejudiced the judge and jury against them. In the years that followed, many leading writers, artists, and political figures around the world became involved in a campaign to obtain a retrial. On April 9, 1927, Sacco and Vanzetti's final appeal was rejected, and the two were sentenced to death.
In words and images, Historian Christopher Daley will recount the Sacco and Vanzetti story from the robbery to the famous trial to the execution and funerals in 1927. Christopher Daley is a history teacher in the Silver Lake regional School System in Kingston. He lectures all over the New England area on many different local history topics.
