Man Attacks Snow Plow Truck Driver with Shovel

While many Massachusetts residents have gone insane in recent weeks due to the unrelenting snowstorms, it appears the weather has driven some of us more berserk than others.

At the tail end of the morning on Sunday, Feb. 15, according to a report from Somerville Police, Joseph Costa of Somerville attacked a snow plow truck driver with a shovel, connecting with at least two blows before being restrained by a witness. Costa has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and malicious destruction of private property.

Police say the sequence of events that led to the assault began when Costa became agitated at nearby plow truck drivers for supposedly pushing snow into his driveway at 52 Dickinson St. Jumping in front of the plows failed to impede their efforts, so he began striking a truck with his shovel.

“Are you out of your (expletive)? Just get out of the way!” said the victim, after rolling down the vehicle’s window. Costa continued his rampage, bashing the the victim’s face and knuckles. The victim managed to stop Costa by grabbing his shovel mid-swing, and then the witness grabbed Costa.

After being told the cops were on the way for him, Costa took out a little more aggression on the truck by cracking its rain visor with his shovel. Then he left the scene, states the report.
