MEDFORD, MA — The city has received approval from the Department of Public Utilities to start shopping around for suppliers for its Municipal Aggregation program. The aim of the program is to provide eligible residents and businesses with competitive choice, long-term price stability and more local renewable energy options for their electric supply.

The city's consultant, Good Energy, will now work with suppliers to get optimal pricing. The program is expected to launch in winter 2019, city officials announced Friday.

"By negotiating electric supply cost as a City, I am optimistic that the residents of Medford will receive an overall cost-saving benefit on their electric bill," said Mayor Stephanie M. Burke said in a statement.
