Medford Park Upgrades On Track To Be Completed This Spring

The upgrades are part of the current phase of citywide renovation.

MEDFORD, MA — The current phase of multiple park renovation projects are scheduled to be completed as soon as this Spring, according to Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn.

The $2.4 million project includes many locations throughout the city. The Logan Park nature play area additions feature log balance beams, stump steppers, and a log stair climber made from repurposed wood and stone. In addition, the plans include hiring a local artist through the Medford Arts Council to sculpt a work out of a tree stump. Logan Park is located at 24 Logan Ave.

The Riverside Plaza shade improvement project’s plans include shade umbrellas and sails to the plaza patio, a water bottle filling station, and an accessible floating deck under the cover of tree shade in the adjacent lawn. Riverside Plaza is located in downtown Medford. Both the Logan Park and Riverside are primarily funded through Community Preservation Act funds.

Tufts Park at 437 Main St. will have shade-providing structures installed for bleachers that were installed this past summer. This addition to the playground is funded by a state earmark by State Rep. and Senate candidate Christine Barber. Carr Park is in the second phase of a large-scale improvement project that began in 2024, and this portion of the work includes the additions of a splash pad, adult fitness area, shaded pavilion with a seating area, picnic lawn, tall swings, open air basketball court, and a covered basketball court with lighting. The covered basketball court will be illuminated with lights powered by solar energy. The work is funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, American Rescue Plan Act funds, and federal funding from the Department of Energy, which Lungo-koehn credited Democratic Minority WHIP Katherine Clark for securing.

Playstead Park on 151 Century St. will see a bright-colored pathway painted between the grass and parking areas in an attempt to improve pedestrian safety.

“What makes Medford so unique is our abundant green and open spaces, and to ensure that these spaces remain accessible, engaging, and vibrant, we need to continue to make significant investments in their improvements,” Lungo-Koehn said. “Thank you to the Office of Planning, Development and Sustainability, the Department of Public Works, our Office of Procurement, and Medford Recreation for their hard work on these important projects."
