Medford Connects Looking To Connect With Volunteers For Numerous Initiatives

The city is looking for residents interested in dedicating time to helping their peers in need.

MEDFORD, MA — The city’s Office of Prevention and Outreach are seeking community members to serve as volunteers for numerous initiatives ongoing in Medford.

Medford Connects is in need of people who can reach the English language to non-native speakers in a classroom setting, one-on-one tutors, leading conversation for more advanced learners, and administrative assistance for people with items such as registration and communication.
Medford Connects is a volunteer-based community engagement initiative led by Medford's Health Department designed to strengthen social resilience. In addition to English second language courses, the organization offers resources such as a multilingual telephone assistance line, climate resilience advocacy, and job search assistance. Interested parties are being asked to contact ESOL and Immigrant Support Connector Karrie Peterson via email.

Volunteers are also being sought to participate in the “Are You Ok” program, which involves making routine weekly phone calls to isolated seniors and other people with disabilities. Potential volunteers are encouraged to reach out to Older Adult and Disability Connector June Mackenzie via email.

Finally, Medford Connects is also looking for people who are willing to deliver food to homebound residents, which is being spearheaded by the Office of Prevention and Outreach’s Hala Fay.
