The Medford Police Department and the City of Medford’s Board of Health will be sponsoring a National Drug Take Back Initiative at the Medford City Hall rear parking lot on Saturday, October 26th from 10AM to 2PM.

This is part of a nationwide effort to take back prescription drugs. Residents will be able to turn in any unused or expired medication for safe disposal. This includes any pills, tablets, capsules, cough medicines, and any other medications. We will also be collecting vaping pens and cartridges.

E-Cigarette & Vaping Devices Disposal Information from the DEA

To help combat the continued vaping health crisis across the country, the DEA will be collecting vaping pens and cartridges at NTBI collection sites (Medford City Hall rear lot). Through discussions with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), DEA has determined that vaping pens without the internal batteries are considered household hazardous waste, the exact same waste designation as the NTBI collected pharmaceuticals and can therefore be co-mingled with NTBI materials. Pens with batteries in them, however, are a different waste stream designation and, more importantly, are considered a potential fire hazard.
