‘Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang’

Medford High senior Alison deRosas winning submission.

Medford High senior Alison deRosas recently won the newly established Medford High School Alumni Association’s first ever scholarship.

In 150 words or less, deRosas wrote about the topic, “Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang.” Here’s her winning submission:

“I have been attending Medford High School sporting events since I was very young. I remember watching soccer games and looking forward to the day that I could join the Medford High School teams. Despite the fact that I was not yet a player, I already considered myself a Mustang at heart and knew I always would. I have loved playing sports at Medford High School; wearing the Mustang Blue and White and taking the field to represent Medford High School. This season I have the honor of being the captain of the Girls Lacrosse team. Moreover, I have loved being a Mustang in the stands and supporting my classmates. Being a part of the Mustang Nation means more to me than the focus of myself and my team; it means being a Mustang Fan. I enjoy leading the crowd in cheers, celebrating the accomplishments of others in my blue and white attire; often times with my face painted. I have never taken being a Mustang for granted and consider it a huge part of my identity. I have allowed being a Mustang to define me because I love where I come from, and that is something that will never change with time. That is why ‘Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang’ describes me.”
