What Should Medford Do With Its Encore Money?

The city receives $125,000 annually from the resort and casino. It is now accepting applications to utilize that money.

MEDFORD, MA — The Medford Community Fund received its first annual installment of $125,000 from Encore Boston Harbor in September. The Medford Community Fund Committee is now accepting applications for the fund, which will distribute grants ranging from $1,000-$25,000.

The committee is comprised of Mayor Stephanie M. Burke; City Council President John Falco; Medford School Committee Vice Chair Kathy Kreatz; Human Diversity Office Director Neil Osborne; and Erin Rafferty, Medford resident and the CEO of the Wonderfund. It will be responsible for reviewing financial requests and awarding money to qualifying organizations.

Any remaining funds will be put into a reserve account. To be eligible to receive funds applicants must be a registered 501(c)(3) and be a Medford based organization that services Medford residents or a Medford program.

The application can be found here. Hard copies can be picked up in the Mayor’s Office at City Hall Room 202.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 6.
