Whiz Kid Ajay's Determination Makes Him an Expert

Ajay Attenazio is watching the afternoon storm roll in, and definitely not in a passive way. He follows it on Doppler, he checks the cloud formations outside, he alerts on the subtle color changes of green and orange light that precede the storm: weather is one of Ajay's interests.

He is also a tremendous engineer. He has built a detailed, working LEGO model of a Ferris wheel, and a very complicated kinetic sculpture/ball drop. He has a gift for math, as well.

"Ajay is a visual learner and can put just about anything together or hook up anything by only looking at a picture of it.  This is a special gift he has which I believe is due to his autism," said his mom, Lisa.

Once he's done his homework, he may tackle "Ajay's Odd Jobs", a small business he runs doing neighborhood landscaping or shoveling. Lisa says he was shovelling snow all winter long this year.

Ajay earned a number of trophies from baseball, biking and bowling. Ajay has played in the Wakefield Little League Challenger Division since he was eight.

 "Not only can he put just about anything together, including his own real lawn mower, Ajay helps everyone in the neighborhood from anything from shoveling to landscaping," Lisa said. "He owns his own lawn mower, weed whacker, leaf blower, electric shovel and anything else there is to do with outside work.  He's not your typical kid...he just wants to work and help others. Yesterday, for almost an hour, he searched for a neighbor's lost cat.  He is very caring that way."
